As part of tradition, families across China prepare elaborate feasts for the holiday. Set in the game’s world, this short depicts a cooking scene that at first glance looks like a quirky food video… until you notice the ingredients are anything but ordinary.

But once you know who Zhong Kui is, the whole thing takes on a very different meaning.
Zhong Kui is a legendary figure in Chinese folklore—a demon-hunting guardian with a fearsome face but a righteous heart. Tasked with banishing demons and protecting homes from evil, he’s revered not only as a Taoist deity but also as a traditional household protector during festivals like Chinese New Year and the Dragon Boat Festival.
He embodies the triumph of justice over darkness.
And yes he eats demons. Not out of cruelty, but to utterly destroy evil and strike fear into any spirit foolish enough to cause harm.
Even today, many households in southern China still honor Zhong Kui with shrines and rituals often quite elaborate. In the north, his presence is more symbolic, usually limited to New Year prints pasted on doors.
So what looks like a bizarre cooking demo is actually a playful, myth-infused tribute to one of China’s most iconic supernatural heroes.
In the final scene, the finished dish is placed on the table, but the person meant to eat it is already wearing a sack over their head, leaving viewers to wonder what it all means.
