Official pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero are now live, with the official release date set for October 29, 2026. At the same time, a new pre-order trailer dropped on the official YouTube channel.
The video consists of three main parts: raw gameplay footage, a rapid-fire boss montage, and a major final reveal. The mysterious masked figure featured heavily in past teasers has finally shown his true face. Martial arts legend Donnie Yen provided both the face model and motion capture for the character, named “Mó Yuán.” The trailer showcases an intense duel with him, featuring classic action moves from Yen’s past movies.

This naturally brings to mind Donnie Yen’s internationally acclaimed action movie career. From the hard-hitting, realistic combat in SPL: Kill Zone and Flash Point to the global martial arts craze sparked by the Ip Man franchise, he has long been an iconic figure in Eastern action cinema.
The theme of the Jinyiwei (the Emperor’s elite secret guards) fits perfectly with his expertise in armed combat and grim aura. Although the game adapts the story, the historical Jinyiwei were not traditional heroes, and this moral ambiguity adds a unique depth to the narrative.
Returning to the trailer itself, it opens with the protagonist fleeing black-clad assassins, leading into a fierce carriage duel against a faceless, reaper-like mini-boss. Even with parts of the HUD hidden for visual effect, the footage appears to be genuine gameplay.
As a title developed by a Chinese studio featuring Chinese themes, its visual style does not restrict itself to pure, traditional aesthetics like Where Winds Meet. Instead, it incorporates dark mechanical aesthetics commonly seen in Western games, creating a distinct, differentiated style.
In combat, the protagonist appears able to parry indefinitely while staying completely unharmed without taking chip damage. While it remains unclear if parrying consumes stamina, pairing a high success rate with smooth counter-attacks is extremely practical—and likely a major reason players are eagerly anticipating this game.
The middle section uses quick cuts to showcase various boss battles. Blending dark mechanical elements with pure Chinese fantasy, this stylistic mix comes as a welcome surprise.
The trailer climaxes with an intense duel against the masked man, unmasking him to reveal Donnie Yen’s likeness as the character Mó Yuán. This feels less like a standard celebrity endorsement and more like a true creative collaboration.
With pre-orders currently open, Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch right before the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. Going head-to-head with such a massive launch as a newcomer shows S-GAME’s complete confidence in their work.
