On August 6, Rockstar Games officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere globally on Netflix on August 27 at 3:00 PM ET. The showcase will subsequently be released on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and the GTA VI website at 9:00 PM ET the same day.

This marks the first time Rockstar has partnered with a streaming platform for the primary debut of major game content. Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Nonfiction Series at Netflix, noted that every GTA launch represents a cultural milestone, stating, “We’re honored to partner with Rockstar to give Netflix members the first look at the next chapter of the GTA story.”
Under the schedule provided by the companies, Netflix subscribers can access the preview on August 27 at 3:00 PM ET. Non-subscribers will be able to view the content six hours later, when it becomes available at no charge on YouTube and the official website.
The staggered timing has drawn attention from online gaming communities. Some users noted that placing promotional material behind a paid subscription effectively requires payment for early access to marketing content. Others reported regional availability restrictions, with users in certain countries encountering a notice reading, “This title is unavailable in your region.” Neither Rockstar nor Netflix has issued a statement regarding the geographic restrictions.
The promotional approach comes amid ongoing commentary surrounding the title’s retail strategy. Rockstar previously confirmed that GTA VI will not include physical media on disc, offering only digital redemption codes in retail packaging. Standard and Ultimate editions are priced at $79.99 and $99.99, respectively.
GTA VI is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. Pre-orders are currently open via rockstargames.com/VI.
