Finally got the Thermal Protection Gene, so I headed into this high-temperature zone. The area is filled with volcano-like coral, and the temperature is insanely high. Right when I was happily mining, the BGM suddenly picked up pace—I didn’t think much of it at first, until a giant beast literally swallowed me whole. That’s when I realized I was in deep trouble!
After respawning, I turned on Creative Mode just to see what this thing actually looked like, which is how I got the octopus clip in the video.
Did some quick testing: attacking it is completely useless; it’s completely unkillable. I remember you could briefly kill the Leviathans in Subnautica 1 (even though they’d eventually respawn), but this thing is on a whole different level. The moment you step into its territory, it hard-locks onto you. If you’re driving a vehicle, it prioritizes the vehicle; if you’re not? It straight-up eats you.
A few tips:
- Get the Depth Module first: It’s best to wait until you unlock the depth module before coming here. The default vehicle can only dive to 250 meters, and this zone goes much deeper.
- Watch your depth: If you don’t have the depth module, do not go below 250 meters. You’ll still get chased, but at least your vehicle won’t take hull damage from the water pressure.
- Use the terrain: If you do get chased, hide right under the cliff faces. It usually can’t hit you there.
- Bring a Repair Tool: Make sure to bring a Repair Tool. Once your vehicle is damaged, it easily gets one-shotted.
By the way, this zone is packed with resources, but you have to learn how to deal with its aggro. If you don’t want to get caught easily, or if you’re just passing through, I highly recommend staying right at the surface—it’s way safer up there.
Bottom line: Don’t linger here. Grab the resources you need and get out immediately!
