Personal tip: When heading out to mine, it’s best to wear at least a full set of copper armor (or better), bring a crossbow, and carry plenty of bolts.
I’ve been playing Hytale for several days now, and I ran into a persistent issue: copper ore is everywhere—you can find it in just about any cave—but iron ore, one of the game’s most essential resources, was surprisingly hard to come by, which left me really confused at first.

After a lot of exploration and trial-and-error, I finally cracked the code: mineral distribution in Hytale isn’t random—it’s tightly tied to specific biomes.

Iron ore primarily spawns deep underground beneath desert biomes, often near lava layers. While you might occasionally stumble upon a block or two of iron in other biomes, those finds are extremely sparse and nowhere near enough for crafting tools, armor, or building projects. If you want to mine iron efficiently and in meaningful quantities, heading to a desert biome is basically mandatory.

Let me show you what I’ve found. Although there’s a lot of iron ore, it’s also very dangerous; many enemies will attack you.

Unfortunately, my spawn point is quite far from the nearest desert, so every trip there takes a significant amount of time—plus, I have to deal with hostile mobs and tricky terrain along the way. Because of this, my next step is to figure out whether Hytale supports any form of teleportation in single-player mode. Maybe through console commands, special items, or buildable structures? Unlocking fast travel would dramatically improve my resource-gathering efficiency and overall gameplay experience.
